Every caption, any language.
Download Subtitles from YouTube
A Chrome extension that downloads YouTube subtitles as SRT, VTT, or TXT — or translates them into any of 60 languages first, right from the video page.
How it works
Open a video
Go to any YouTube video that has captions — auto-generated ones work too.
Tap the icon
A small round button appears on the page. Click it to open the subtitle panel.
Pick language & format
Choose the caption track and SRT, VTT, or TXT — the preview updates instantly.
Download, copy, or translate
Get the original text, or translate it into another language first — either replaces the original or sits under it, line by line.
60 languages, by name
The picker shows each language the way you'd actually look for it — in your own display language, not just a two-letter code. Try it:
Every format, both languages if you want
Pick the file your video editor or LMS actually accepts. Translations use the same three formats.
In bilingual mode, each line keeps the original directly above its translation — useful for language learners, or for editors who need to check a translation against the source.
How your Google account is used
To download, copy, or translate subtitles, the extension asks you to sign in with Google. That is the only thing Google sign-in is used for.
What we ask Google for
- Your email address
- Your Google account ID
- Your basic profile (

Why we need it
To recognize your account and apply the free plan's daily limit. We never read your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google data, and we don't access your YouTube account — captions are read from the video page you have open.
Full details are in the Privacy Policy. You can revoke access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
Get it in about ten seconds.
Free to install. Your Google account is used only to apply the free plan's daily limit.
